Sleeping Beauties is a charity we are setting up to support families affected by the loss of a baby in honour of our sleeping beauty Blueberry.
Together we are hoping to raise money to provide the hospitals with cold cots and Moses baskets to help and support other families going through this heart breaking time. Hopefully, this will give families as much precious one on one time with their baby as possible. The baby clothes that are knitted will also be donated to the hospitals so all families are given the opportunity to dress their babies.
Our daughter, Blueberry Grant, was born sleeping on 14th December 2021, due to many complications we heartbreakingly lost our baby girl at 24 weeks. During this extremely difficult time we were supported greatly by the midwives and doctors at Bolton, Wigan and Leigh Hospitals. We were fortunately given the opportunity to take our baby girl home using one of only two cold cots. This allowed our family to meet our precious girl and us as parents to have quality time with our daughter out of the hospital. We also were able to use a small Moses basket to bring our baby girl home in and give her a place to sleep.
Most hospital trusts have only a couple of cold cots and small Moses baskets available, so we hope to donate more to give all families the opportunity that we were fortunate enough to have.
Before our daughter was born we had never considered that being born sleeping was a possibility, since then we have come to learn that in the UK alone 13 babies are born sleeping or pass away within the first 48 hours of birth. This doesn’t include those babies lost through miscarriage or born earlier than 24 weeks. As well as raise money we hope we are able to raise more awareness and offer as much support as we can to those families affected.
